Monochrome has been somewhat transcendent in fashion for the longest time. The trend (so to speak) has been around since Chanel’s iconic 1920s and continues to dominate both the runways and street style season after season.
Skip understands the value of classic monochrome pieces and the struggle to keep them clean whilst still keeping them new. After washing, black clothes can fade into a dull grey while white clothes can begin to look yellow-ish. This is why they have recently formulated the Perfect Care duo of washing liquids. These detergents have specifically been researched and created to keep your white and black clothes newer for longer. “Whatever your monochrome staples – whether it’s your favourite LBD, a faux fur black coat or your comfiest pair of white jeans – this liquid can keep your items newer for longer,” says Caroline Blumrick (brand manager for Skip)
As if it could get any better for a fashionista, Skip has collaborated with three South African designers to design an exclusive limited edition monochrome collection that you can get your hands on right now! The designers are Prime Obsession, Imprint ZA and Lukhanyo Mdingi and each of these houses bring something unique and elegant to the Skip Monochrome collection. The pieces are made from beautiful, easy care fabrics and utilize elements like print and texture. All the pieces are machine washable.
“The best part about conceptualising these pieces with Skip was challenging our minds to create inspiring and vibrant classic pieces” says design duo Prime Obsession.
Lukhanyo Mdingi adds that he’s “relished the chance to create pieces that are a lot more accessible to the public. As fabrics are our immediate medium, having a garment care company such as Skip makes the longevity and care of our garments timeless”.
The pieces range from about R600 to ±R1300 and possibly the best thing about this venture is that the proceeds will be donated to The Creative Leaders Trust which assists current and prospective students at FEDISA to uplift the future of local fashion.
Mzukisi Mbane from Imprint ZA welcomes Skip’s involvement in the project: “It’s powerful. When a household brand collaborates with designers, people get to focus on local fashion instantly. It opens an opportunity for designers to access new markets and for people to recognise and value South African fashion.”
You can find the Skip Monochrome Pop-Up at Sandton City (Johannesburg) from the 10th to the 24th July 2018 and Canal Walk (Cape Town) from the 7th to the 21st of August 2018.
I already had my eye on a few pieces at the launch and I will definitely be going back to buy them! As a blogger and fashion lover it absolutely warms my heart to see a household brand like Skip invest in fashion. They have always been innovative and original in their approach to the industry and have attempted to make fashion reachable and laundry fun!
As an added treat, if you purchase a bottle of Skip Perfect Whites Auto Liquid 1.5L or Skip Perfect Darks Auto Liquid 1.5L in Sandton City or Canal Walk and go to the Skip Monochrome Pop-up Shop with your receipt you will receive another full-sized bottle of your variant for free! (While stocks last.)
Until next time
Love and sparkles
