{FASHION NEWS} | The Skip Fashion Exchange is Back!

Fashionistas, you can celebrate! #SkipFX17 is here once again! This is honestly one of my favourite events of the year and I am so glad that they’ve, over the last few years, opened it to everyone. This year, you will find #SkipFX17 at Sandton City in the Checkers Court until the 31st of July.

If you’re not familiar with the Skip Fashion Exchange, let me tell you what it’s about. It is a unique experience that allows you to swap out your pre-loved pieces for something else. It is an entirely cashless system and you will leave with something of the same category as what you’ve brought in. I personally really, really like this because I often have a beautiful item of clothing or an accessory that I just cannot style or that I have evolved from and someone else gets to love and enjoy it. The thought of that is wonderful and I also get to go home with someone else’s pre-loved piece.

The stunning Palesa in a mix of Premium and High Street pieces from the exchange

There are 3 categories; High Street, Premium and Luxury. High Street means you can bring in and find items from brands like H&M, Cotton On and Free2Bu etc. while Premium is a little more elaborate in terms of fabric and construction (Jo Borkett, Reiss etc).

Luxury means high-end designer wear. Brands like Chloe, BCBG and DKNY have made an appearance.

I managed to pick up a gorgeous tweed cropped jacket in Premium yesterday which I will style and show you soon.

Here is a detailed guide to how it all works.

1)            SELECT – Gather up the high street, premium or luxury clothing items in your closet that you no longer wear. Please make sure that your pieces are in good condition, clean and pressed.

2)            REGISTER – It’s important that we have your details before you swap, so be sure to register online at www.skipfashionexchange.co.za or at the Skip Fashion Exchange pop up store in Sandton City Mall. I would recommend registering online beforehand because it can get a bit busy at the pop-up.

3)            RATE – Take your clean clothing and accessories to the Skip Fashion Exchange in Sandton City Mall, Johannesburg. Each garment will be evaluated and categorised by the lovely ladies as either ‘high street’, ‘premium’ or ‘luxury’. You’ll then receive the relevant tokens to use as store credit at the Skip Fashion Exchange.

4)            SWAP – This is when the excitement really begins. Browse the Skip Fashion Exchange before swapping your tokens for a new favourite wardrobe item. The Skip Fashion Exchange is constantly updated, so you can hold onto your tokens and keep checking back in until you find something you love. There is even a stylist at the pop-up to help you out!

The Fashion Exchange is truly a delightful ingenuity by Skip. Who knew that washing powder had a soul?! 😉

If you have any more questions please pop me a comment or tweet and I will try to help you out as best as I can. Also, if you do go I’d love to see what you’ve taken and then what you’ve gotten in exchange. Tweet me at @LadyZaa and join the fun by tagging @SkipSouthAfrica and #SkipFX17
