On the 24th of September we celebrate Heritage Day in South Africa. To join the festivities, Zuri chose six South African bloggers to each represent a colour on our lovely flag. Blue was chosen for me and it is supposed to represent the oceans and our beautiful blue skies.
As a South African I am grateful for so much. We walk on land that reminds us every day that absolutely anything can be overcome. We are the walking hopes and dreams of so many of our ancestors that believed in a better, brighter future and fought for a way out of oppression. Sometimes I wonder if we are the luckiest people on the earth. We have so much rich, diverse culture and an amazing country. From our bright blue, sunny skies, mountains, sea and the magnificent big five, to our world class cities, talented designers and creatives and friendly, awesome citizens. We truly have a lot to celebrate this Heritage Day and every single day!
This Heritage Day I will be visiting a few Heritage markets and of course, I will be braaing (barbeque).

South Africa is a beautiful country with so much diversity in landscapes & scenery, the people and wildlife. Yes there might be some problems but like anything in life if you look at the 'glass half full' there is so much charm amongst the people and most people want a better SA for all. There is always a sunny corner somewhere in the country even in the depth of winter and we make jolly good wine 🙂 ! Nothing always works like clock work but that is what makes it quirky and who always wants things to be predictable anyway – that is just boring! South Africa is a unique and beautiful country! The warm friendly smiles and spirit of UBuntu that is displayed amongst our wonderful people! We embrace all the different cultures and ways of life. It is not often that you find the differences in people make them stronger, yet in SA, the vast diversity makes us all the more unified and strengthened together. From the food, language and dressing preferences, we are so amazingly diverse, and I love it! We have such delicious cuisine, such stunning world heritage sites, such beautiful tourist attractions, and we even have one of the Natural Wonders of The World…there is not a single thing that we cannot be proud of!
I will be spending Heritage Day with my lovely family and boyfriend, having a braai of course to celebrate the unique culture that is South Africa!

A colourful array of different foods, religions, beliefs and traditions are blended together to make up the amazing nation. South Africa has many challenges, but that’s what makes it exciting to be here. To be part of facing these challenges and (re)building a country. The people – ALL the people – are just great. To be part of a rainbow nation with different cultures,different traditional beliefs, music, dance, food & attire, makes me proud of my hertitage.
Where else in the world can you go from Oceans and Mountains, through beautiful vineyards and into arid desert, from open bushveld, to tropical forest. Where else can you find such a diversity of people that 11 official languages are required. Here’s to the glorious South African sunsets and the great blue African skies. Here’s to the rich wildlife and the friendly, happy people. Here’s to melktert and koeksusters, mampoer, bobotie, sosaties, amasi, isidudu, chutney and bunny chow, vetkeok and malva pudding. Here’s to a melting pot of cultures, coming together. I can think of nothing better than waking up in the morning and going on a game drive in the cool morning air. It is amazing living in a country where there are people from so many different races and religion & living in a country that you know has gone through a lot and come out better for it. South Africa has some of the nicest beaches in the world. 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa was one of the best world cups ever. It showed that as South Africans we could come together and do something great! We are one of the greatest sporting nations in the world.and we have one of the best climates in the world.There is a variety of amazing holiday destinations on your doorstep. South Africa is a country rich with resources, cultures and geographies and few countries the size of South Africa can boast such diversity. But none of this matters, if it doesn’t feel like home, and that's why I love SA and am proud to be a South African, because S.A. is home to me. This is the home of ubuntu. For those of you who don't know, it basically means a spirit of community and sharing and kindness. South Africa is a unique and beautiful country, and I'm proud to be part of the diversity in people & culture ! love S.A
